Welcome Again! In this post we will discuss about the main part of the whole Quadcopter/Multirotors system. Here we will learn about What is Propeller? Propeller Specification | Length & Pitch. Before knowing about What is Propeller? Propellers Specification | Length & Pitch you must know the basics of Quadcopters or UAV or Multirotors. As we are discussing about What is Propeller? Propellers Specification | Length & Pitch so we must know about the system on which we want to implement it.

What is Propeller? Propeller Specification | Length & Pitch

propellerPropellers are a special type of fans and by converting rotational power to thrust, propellers transmits power. Propellers have airfoil shaped blade and a pressure difference is created between its rear and backward surface. The Dynamics is based upon two laws:

Bernoulli’s principle: Bernoulli’s principle state for a non-conducting fluid that with the decrease in the pressure, an increase in the speed of fluid occurs.

Newton’s Third Law: It states that to every action there is equal and opposite reaction.

In a Quadcopter we use four propellers, two in clockwise direction and two in counter-clockwise direction. Classification of these propellers is done on the basis of their length and pitch. For example a propellers with 8*3 specification means it is having length 8 inch and is having pitch of 3. These will draw more amount of current if we use propellers of increased length and pitch. The speed of rotation depends upon the pitch, high is the pith means slower the speed of rotation and these will also consume high power. Whereas, if we select propellers with low pitch, it will reduce the amount of current drawn because low pitch propellers can generate more amount of torque.

On the basis of length of propellers, a Propeller with large length is more efficient compared to those with small length.
